D Cup Bras

Throughout the 21st century, D cups were portrayed to be big and were usually associated with busty models and celebrities. It used to be almost impossible to find a bra bigger than a D cup, but in our extensive experience if you are a D cup you are very much in proportion. In actual fact, a D cup at Brava is the smallest cup we fit.

Many women mistakenly believe they are a D cup size, because that’s all that has been offered to them in the past. Limited bra sizes in department stores, combined with minimal education in Australia on breast health and the benefits of a well-fitted bra, resulted in women wearing whatever they could squeeze their chest into. Most women who visit Brava for the first time tell us they are a D cup, but we estimate that 50% of these women would be closer to an E cup or F cup. Usually we fit customers into a smaller back band size, so when we fit a smaller back band on our customers the cup size then goes up to compensate (for example, a woman who has always worn 12D may be correctly fitted into a size 10E bra).

The cup size ‘D’ is the same in all brands. Although a D cup is the same in theory, in practical terms a D cup size bra in one brand could be a different size in another brand, but usually not by much. This can be affected by the style of bra, the brand, or the fabric used.

Remember: As the back band of your bra size increases, so does the size of the cup. The D cup of a 16D is bigger than the D cup of a 12D. So in actual fact a 16D is 2 cup sizes bigger than a 12D. Confused? Visit us for a bra fitting or email one of our fitting team today.

DD Cup Bras

Using the term ’DD cup’ excites the boys and frightens the girls, but mention you are a bigger than DD cup in polite company and people will look at you in disbelief.

DD cup size bras are actually very popular, with up to 40 percent of Australian women wearing cup size DD. In recent history, DD cups have been portrayed to be huge - associated with busty models - but in our extensive experience if you are a DD cup you are well in proportion. In actual fact, a DD cup at Brava is one of the smallest cups we fit.

Many women believe they are a DD cup because that’s all that has been offered to them in the past. Since most department and lingerie stores only stocked up to a DD cup size, women were finding ways of wearing a back size too big just to get a bra that would cover their breasts.

We estimate that most women who visit Brava for the first time and tell us they are a DD cup, 50% would be closer to an E, F or FF cup. But remember the bra band could be too big, so when we fit a smaller back band on our customers this decreases the cup size too so then the cup size then must go up to compensate.

In theory, the cup size ‘DD’ is the same in across all bra brands. However in practical terms, DD cup in one brand could be a different size in another brand. It’s important to note that not all brands carry a DD cup size. Those bra brands that do not carry a DD cup are usually European, and their E cup is equal to the Australian/UK DD cup.

It's important to note that as the back band of your bra increases, so does the size of the cup. The DD cup of a 16DD is bigger than the DD cup of a 12DD. So in actual fact a 16DD is two cup sizes bigger than a 12DD. So, not all DDs are the same size. The size of the back band actually changes the size of the cup.

Read our blog article 'Myth No.2 - DD cup is huge' for a better insight into the DD cup size bra.

E Cup Bras

The sizing of an 'E' cup bra can be different depending on the brand. One of the reasons for this is that some brands don't carry DD bra cup size, so they carry an E cup instead (which is equal to the Australian or UK DD cup size).

In practical terms, an E cup bra in one brand could be one whole cup size different in another brand.

In recent history, E cup size breasts have been portrayed to be huge... Some people will look at you wide-eyed when you say you are an E cup. Finding an E cup in a mainstream store can be like finding a needle in a haystack. In actual fact, at Brava an E cup is one of our smaller cups. Many women who believe they are a D cup are more often an E cup because they have not been fitted correctly.

We estimate that most women who visit Brava for the first time and tell us they are an E cup, are more likely to be closer to a FF or G cup. But remember, most women are wearing a bra band size which is too big; so once we fit a smaller back band on our customers, this decreases their bra cup size too (so then the cup size then must go up to compensate).

Remember: Not all E cups are the same size - the size of the back band actually changes the size of the cup. As the size of your back band increases, so does the size of the cup. The E cup of a 16E is bigger than the E cup of a 12E. So in actual fact a 16E is two cup sizes bigger than a 12E. Confused? Visit us for a bra fitting or email one of our fitting team today.

F Cup Bras

The size of an ‘F cup bra’ can vary depending on the brand. One of the reasons for this is that some brands do not carry a DD, so an F cup in a European brand can be equal to the Australian or UK sizing 'E' cup. Although an F cup bra is the same in theory, in practical terms an F cup in one brand could be a whole cup size different in another brand.

Finding an F cup bra in a mainstream lingerie store is almost impossible. In actual fact, at Brava an F cup is pretty average. Many women who believe they are a DD or E cup are more often an F cup because they have not been fitted correctly.

We estimate that most women who visit Brava for the first time and tell us they are an F cup, most would be closer to a G or GG cup. But remember that your bra band could be too big, so when we fit a smaller back band it decreases the cup size too (so then the cup size then must go up to compensate).

Remember: Not all F cups are the same size - the size of the back band actually changes the size of the cup. As the size of your back band increases, so does the size of the cup. The F cup of a 16F is bigger than the F cup of a 12F. So in actual fact a 16F is two cup sizes bigger than a 12F. Confused? Visit us for a bra fitting or email our fitting team today.

G Cup Bras

The acual size of ‘G cup’ bras can differ depending on the brand. One reason for this is that European brands do not carry a DD cup, so their G cup is equal to an Australian/UK sizing F or FF cup. In practical terms, a G cup bra in one brand could be a whole cup size different in another brand.

Finding a G cup bra in a mainstream store is almost impossible in Australia (unless you want a granny bra). However, at Brava we fit G cups everyday.

Many women who have previously been wearing a G cup bra are quite often a GG or H cup, as they had not been fitted correctly when bra shopping in the past.

We estimate that out of all the women who visit Brava for the first time and tell us they are a G cup, most would be closer to a GG cup or H cup. But remember - your bra band could be too big, so when we fit a smaller back band on you it will decrease the cup size too (so then the cup size then must go up to compensate).

Remember: Not all G cups are the same size - the size of the back band actually changes the size of the cup. As the size of your back band increases, so does the size of the cup. The G cup of a 16G is bigger than the G cup of a 12G. So in actual fact a 16G is two cup sizes bigger than a 12G. Confused? Visit us for a bra fitting or email our fitting team today.

H Cup Bras

The cup size ‘H’ cannot be found in many brands, and if you are a H cup you have probably done your research. Being a H cup can be a shock to some women after wearing a smaller cup size for so many years. Just keep in mind that once fitted in the right bra size, your bust will actually look smaller and your torso longer (once your bust has been lifted).

Some brands attempt to make their bras go beyond a G cup without success because they don’t add extra support. The H cup bras you will find at Brava have been tried and tested.

Finding a H cup bra in a mainstream lingerie store is very rare. At Brava we fit H cup bras every day. Many women don’t know they are a H cup until they visit us. Remember the back band you have been wearing could be too big, so when we fit a smaller back band on you it will decrease the cup size too (so then the cup size then must go up to compensate).

Remember: Not all H cups are the same size - the size of the back band actually changes the size of the cup. As the size of your back band increases, so does the size of the cup. The H cup of a 16H is bigger than the H cup of a 12H. So in actual fact a 16H is two cup sizes bigger than a 12H. Confused? Visit us for a bra fitting or email our fitting team today.

FF Cup Bras (FF for Fabulously FAB)

The bra cup size ‘FF’ is usually associated with UK or Australian brands. The FF cup size in European brands can sometimes be different, as they do not carry a DD cup (which means that their G cup is equal to an Australian/UK FF cup).

Although a FF cup bra is the same in theory, in practical terms a FF cup in one brand could be a whole cup size different in another brand.

Finding a FF cup-sized bra in a mainstream stores is almost impossible in Australia. However, at Brava a FF cup is our biggest selling cup. Many women who believe they are a DD or E cup are more often an F or FF cup (because they had not been fitted correctly when previously buying bras).

We estimate that most women who visit Brava for the first time and tell us they are an FF cup would be closer to a G or GG cup. But remember, your bra band could be too big, so when we fit a smaller back band on you it will decrease the cup size too (so the cup size then must go up to compensate).

Remember: Not all FF cups are the same size - the size of the back band actually changes the size of the cup. As the size of your back band increases, so does the size of the cup. The FF cup of a 16FF is bigger than the FF cup of a 12FF. So in actual fact a 16FF is two cup sizes bigger than a 12FF. Confused? Visit us for a bra fitting or email our fitting team today.
